Montigo Heat Management Systems: Smarter Heat for Modern Fireplace Designs

Heat management has quickly become one of the most important features in modern fireplaces—and one of the most requested by homeowners and designers alike. As TVs above fireplaces and clean, minimalist installs continue to dominate, controlling where heat goes is no longer optional. That’s why Montigo's two Heat Management Systems are so popular. They allow beautiful fireplaces—like the Montigo DelRay, ranked #2 in our Top 5 Fireplace Category—to deliver warmth where you want it, while keeping walls, TVs, and living spaces comfortable and safe.

Cool Wall Release

Cool Wall Release — How It Works

  • Manages heat right at the source instead of letting it build up at the front of the fireplace

  • Redirects heat upward behind the wall, keeping the area directly above the fireplace cooler

  • Heat is gently released back into the room through a louver or opening at the top of the wall

  • Uses factory-designed knockouts on the top of the fireplace to move heat behind the wall

  • No additional accessories required — the system is built directly into select Montigo fireplaces (including the DelRay and Distinction Series)

  • Allows the fireplace face to be finished with standard combustible materials

  • The space behind the wall above the fireplace must remain open for proper operation

  • Always follow the installation manual for complete instructions and requirements

Why It Matters

  • Helps keep the area directly above the fireplace cooler

  • Allows for safer finishes and cleaner, modern designs

  • Provides greater installation flexibility without sacrificing comfort

  • Cool wall release is the most cost effective heat management system in the industry

TV Above the Fireplace

  • Redirects heat away from the TV, instead of pushing it straight out the front

  • Reduces heat buildup directly above the fireplace

  • Makes TV-above-fireplace installations more achievable and worry-free

Cool Wall Advantage

Cool Wall Advantage — How It Works

  • Provides more direct and controlled heat management than Cool Wall Release

  • Ideal if you want a cool wall and the ability to redirect heat into the room or an adjacent room

  • Uses 5″ flex pipe connected to dedicated heat management ports on the fireplace

  • Heat is carried through the flex pipe to a plenum or louver, where it is released in a controlled location

  • Helps lower surface temperatures around the fireplace opening

  • Because heat is fully contained within the flex pipe, it helps protect walls, TV recesses, wiring, and delicate electronics

  • Cannot be used to vent heat outdoors

Why It Matters

  • Offers maximum control over where heat is released

  • Ideal for TV recesses and built-in designs

  • Helps protect finishes, electronics, and wiring

TV Above the Fireplace

  • Actively redirects heat away from the TV using dedicated ducting

  • Keeps the inside of TV recesses and cable pathways cooler

  • One of the best solutions for TV-above-fireplace installations

*Important Note*
Cool Wall Advantage must be sized correctly for the fireplace model and installation. The Cool Wall Advantage Kit is not compadible with the 60" & 72" DelRay Linear Fireplaces. Always refer to the installation manual for complete instructions, approved configurations, and clearance requirements.

FAQs

Q: Do I need to purchase any additional accessories for these heat management options?

A: The Cool Wall Advantage Kit is an add-on accessory and includes 3 parts. Price may vary. The Cool Wall Release is included and does not need add-ons (a louver may be added for heat release).

Q: Which option is better for installing with a TV?

A: The Cool Wall Advantage Kit is the better choice for TV installations because it actively moves heat away using flexible ducting, creating a safer and more controlled environment above the fireplace. The Cool Wall Release is also a good option, but it allows heat to rise freely to a heat-release opening behind the wall rather than directing it through ducting. Both are rated for use with a TV.

Q:Can I add a heat management system later?

A: Most heat management options must be installed during the initial fireplace installation. It’s best to plan ahead and choose the right system before installation begins. Our team at Mod Living Spaces is here to help you choose the best system for your application!

Q: Will a heat management system affect how much heat my room gets?

A: Heat management systems are designed to improve comfort by redirecting heat where it’s needed—whether that’s spreading warmth more evenly in the room or moving excess heat away from the fireplace opening.
